Clinton-Massie Varsity Baseball Surge Past Clermont Northeastern Behind Explosive Second Inning

Clinton-Massie Varsity Falcons used a dominant second inning to power past Clermont Northeastern Varsity Rockets, 13-2, on Friday. The Falcons broke the game wide open in the second, plating seven runs to take full control. Andrew Smith got things started with an RBI single, followed by Peyton Warren drawing a bases-loaded walk to bring in another run. Mason Paytes forced a fielder’s choice that allowed a run to score, while Corey Frisch and Zach Carter each drew walks to add to the rally. Will Creech capped the inning with a two-run single, giving Clinton-Massie a commanding lead. Clinton-Massie wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the first inning. Warren tripled to center field to drive in a run, and Jackson Doyle followed with an RBI single down the left field line to make it 2-0 early. The Falcons continued to add on in the third inning, capitalizing on a Clermont Northeastern error to extend the lead. On the mound, Corey Frisch earned the win, tossing three innings while allowing just two hits and two runs—both unearned. He struck out four and walked three. Mason Paytes took the loss for the Rockets, surrendering nine runs on six hits over two innings. Hayden Meeker and Noah Gorman came on in relief for Clinton-Massie and each delivered scoreless outings. At the plate, Clinton-Massie tallied 10 hits and showed strong discipline, drawing eight walks. Will Creech led the way with three RBIs, going 2-for-2 from the nine spot. Smith and Creech each recorded two hits, while Carter added two walks. Smith also sparked the offense on the bases with three stolen bases, as the Falcons totaled five steals in the game. For Clermont Northeastern, Colton Sexton and Paytes each collected a hit, hitting back-to-back in the lineup. Sexton drove in the Rockets’ lone RBI, finishing 1-for-1. Brady Schmidt added pressure on the basepaths with two stolen bases. Clinton-Massie will look to keep the momentum rolling as they travel to face New Richmond on Monday.
