Clinton-Massie Varsity Falcons advanced in the postseason with a 4-1 victory over Batavia HS Fast Pitch Softball in the Round 2 OHSAA Sectional on Tuesday at Batavia High School. The Falcons rode a dominant performance from Ava Crombie, who struck out 13 batters while allowing just one hit and one run across seven innings. The right-hander also worked around four walks to secure the complete-game win for Clinton-Massie. Batavia struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Berkley Schmittou delivered an RBI single to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. Clinton-Massie answered in a big way during the top of the fifth inning to take control of the game. Alyssa Sandlin came through with a clutch double that plated two runs, and Kalli Jodrey followed with an RBI single to push the Falcons ahead 3-1. The Falcons later added an insurance run and backed Crombie’s effort with a strong defensive performance throughout the game. Sandlin, Jodrey, and Abbie Baker each collected two hits for Clinton-Massie. Sandlin and Jodrey also drove in two runs apiece to lead the Falcons offensively. Alexis Roehm took the loss for Batavia after pitching a complete game. The right-hander allowed four runs on nine hits while striking out four and walking four over seven innings. Schmittou accounted for Batavia’s lone RBI, finishing 1-for-3 at the plate. Batavia also turned a double play and played error-free defense, with Riley Jones leading the way defensively with six chances in the field.
